Laying low for March break : update on Fordist revolution in the T dot .. and the latest global Zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Mar 10th, 2012 | By Counterweights Editors | Category: In BriefEven The Tyee in BC is talking about how “Harper backs Toronto’s mayor’s yen for subways, cars over light rail.” Here on the waterfront where we are headquartered, only half an hour from the downtown depths of the city with the heart of a loan shark itself (by public transit), we have just completed our latest “Streetcar Named Rob Ford” update: Friday 9 March 2012 : Ford brothers revolution – decline and fall or restoration?
Meanwhile, in the wider global village, check out our latest Zzzzzzzzzzzzz update … “Links to recent news for those who really cannot get to sleep … Robocalls status report, Palin Game Change, Sweeping Harper government budget plans, and Pat Robertson says yes to pot, etc, etc, etc.”
And note that “Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson carry HBO’s Sarah Palin-centered tale of the 2008 election, premiering at 9 PM. Saturday” (and that’s tonight – ET and maybe PT too, just three hours later?). For at least one view of the deeper truth here, see also “Julianne Moore Nails Sarah Palin in Game Change.”
Finally, for something completely different, this coming Wednesday, March 14 in Ottawa the Macdonald-Laurier Institute will be presenting a debate between Michael Bliss and John Fraser on “The Monarchy is a Dangerous Anachronism” (or”The Monarchy is a Dangerous Relic of the Past”). J.L. Granatstein will moderate. The debate will take place at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, 6:30—9:30 PM ET. (And we certainly agree strongly with the proposition being advanced; ie, the British monarchy in Canada certainly is a dangerous relic of the 19th century – just like the unreformed Canadian Senate, that Mr. Harper at least says he wants to at least start working on, when he’s finished backing Toronto’s mayor’s yen for subways, cars over light rail.)
